Lapford Revel competition. Thursday evening, 9th July 2026
LAPFORD BELL RINGING COMPETITION.
Your team is invited to compete in the Lapford Revel competition. The Lapford Revel shield was first won by Down St Mary in 1982 and awarded every year until 2009 when it was won by Mortehoe. The competition was revived last year, when Down St. Mary won the Shield and Bow came in second to win the Cup. Revel week is around the weekend of July 11th this year and we would like to repeat the call change ringing competition on the evening of Thursday July 9th, with the first peal at 6 o’clock. The peals will be sixty on thirds with raising and lowering under usual competition rules, the teams starting at approximately 20-minute intervals from 6 o’clock. An attractive shield (with hallmarked silver bell!) is at stake for first place, with “the Malt Scoop cup” for second place.
The church of St Thomas of Canterbury is just opposite the Malt Scoop Inn where meals will be available, and light refreshments will also be available in the church.
Please contact Andy Epstein at to enter. This is an evening ring and so we only have three hours for the competition, restricting the number of teams to nine. Results should be available in the church as soon as possible after 9 o’clock. Entries will be accepted on a “first come first served” basis. We are also aware that the early start may be difficult for some teams so please indicate this in your reply if it is a problem. The organising committee will allocate ringing times in advance to avoid all teams necessarily having to attend at 6 o’clock for a draw.
Regards
Andy Epstein, Tower Captain, St. Thomas of Canterbury, Lapford
