  1. Zeal Monachorum Competition

    St Peter's Church, Zeal Monachorum 


    Dear Tower Captain,


    The bell ringer's of Zeal Monachorum invite you to our ringing competition on Saturday, 26th August 2017.


    There will be two sections:
    Section A competing for a shield and four certificates 
    Section B competing for a cup and four certificates. 


    RULES 
    1. The first fifteen teams to reply will be accepted 
    2. Teams will be able to choose their preferred ringing time on a first come, first served basis at 20 minute intervals, the last ring will be at 7.40pm 
    3. Competing teams are expected to be regular church service ringer's for the team they are representing. 
    4. Entrance fee £6.00 per team 
    5. Teams to ring the peal “sixty on thirds” 
    6. The duration of the peal, including rise and fall, shall not be less than 15 minutes

  4. Devon Association of Ringers - GRAND DRAW

    REMINDER!!!


    The Grand Draw for all those fabulous cash prizes will be made this Saturday at Dunsford prior to the competition results being announced.  


    Please ensure that your ticket stubs and money are returned to Julia Jarvis, preferably before Saturday, but you can come along to the Final and give them to her there.

  5. Devon Association 6 bell South & North Qualifying

    Saturday 13th May 2017 is the day on which the Devon Association holds it's North & South 6 bell Qualifying competitions.


    The competitions are held simultaneously and Kick Off with a short service at 2pm followed by the roll call for teams and then the draw for order of ringing.


    The South's competition will be held at Tedburn St Mary not from Exeter just off the A30 and the North's will be held at Bishop's Tawton not far from Barnstaple. The Tenor at Tedburn weigh's 10-0-6 in F and at Bisphop's Tawton 9-2-20 in G#.


    Top 5 teams in each competition automatically go through to the Devon Association 6 bell Major Final, this year being held on the beautiful six at Dunsford, the next 5 go through to the Minor Final being held at Clawton near Holsworthy.



  6. John Kelly

    The funeral of John Kelly BEM will take place on Friday 19 May 2017 at Paignton Church. The service will start at 2pm.


    Family flowers only please. 


     There will ringing before the service by the local ringers. Ringers are invited to ring after the service, and will be coordinated by Michael Webster as required. Please contact him by email; mtwebster@btinternet.com



  7. Saturday 20 May 2017 - Devon Ringing in Gloucestershire!

    Please find below the details of the Devon Ringing Workshop and Longborough Call Change Competition that will be held on Saturday 20 May 2017.

    We had a brilliant day in Gloucestershire two years ago! Excellent ringing, beautiful location, exciting scaresrow trail, entertainment and delicious food. This is a weekend not to be missed!

  8. Norman Lock and John Kelly BEM


    We are sad to advise that Norman Lock of Black Torrington, and John Kelly BEM of Paignton, have both recently passed away.


    The memorial service for Norman Lock will be held on Wednesday 17 May 2017 at Shebbear Church, starting at 2pm. When further details are known regarding services for John Kelly there will be a further update.


    Our thoughts and condolences for both families.

  9. 2017 MINOR FINAL VENUE CHANGE

    Due to unforeseen circumstances, the work at Aswater tot the tower will not be complete in time for the Minor Final as first thought.


    Therefore, it is to be held at Clawton. It is the next village on, they are a similar weight of  8cwt - 1qr - 25lb and are also a ground floor.


    To any team entering this years 6 Bell, please be aware of this change and spread the word.

  10. Change to Huntsham Workshop

    Please be aware that there has been a change to the date and venue for the Guild of Devonshire Ringers' Call Change Workshop this month. 


    Instead of taking place at Huntsham on Saturday 22 April, the workshop will now be held at Stoodleigh on Saturday 29 April between 10am and 12pm. This is to avoid a clash with the Open Festival at Crediton.  All Welcome! And thanks are extended to all ringers who have supported these sessions so far.



  11. South Devon Inter-Deanery ringing festival saturday 08/04/17

    Inter Deanery ringing festival.



    Saturday 8th April is the Inter deanery ringing competition, this year it is being held within the Ivybridge & Plymouth Deanery at Shaugh Prior.


    The six bells were re-hung and tuned in 1937 by John Taylor and Co and are a superb sounding ring of bells but they are a challenge to strike well! Tenor weigh's 15-1-3 in E.


    Draw for order of ringing 2.15pm, there will be a tea and real ale will be available as the village pub is currently closed.

    TAMAR VALLEY KNOCKOUT RINGING COMPETITION

    6 Bell – W Haine Cup and 3 Certificates

    Ringing to commence at 6.30pm

    NOVICE SECTION

    To ring half peal off the stay known as sixty on thirds

    Trophies and certificates will be awarded at the end of the competition.

    RULES

    Teams to ring a peal known as Sixty on Thirds (6 Bell)
    Any tower wishing to enter two teams may do so, but the second team will only be accepted if time permits.
    All cups will be perpetual and must be returned by the following year’s competition.
    St
    Nectan's Church Council will not be held responsible for any accident
    in the Tower to any ringer or anyone attending the competition.

    ENTRY FEE: £6.00

    Please telephone the Secretary as soon as possible to enter a team and obtain a time.
    Times will be allocated on a first come first served basis.

  14. Rededication of Chagford Bells

    On 1st April 2017 there was service of thanksgiving and re-dedication of the refurbished and re-hung bells of St Michael the Archangel, Chagford conducted by the Bishop of Exeter, the Right Revd. Robert Atwell


    The bells were rung before the service, during the service and after the blessing of the restoration project by the local band. The bells were then available for open ringing after the buffet lunch.

  15. 2017 6-Bell Qualifiers
    Today marks the start of the 2017 ringing calendar with the annual Ide Competition and the 2017 Qualifiers for the 6 Bell will soon be upon us!



    Qualifiers will be held on the 13th May.
